Common Myths About CBD

There are a lot of misconceptions about hemp, and in today’s blog post we’re setting the record straight. Continue reading to learn more and if you’re looking for high-quality hemp extract products, browse our Herbal Infusions collections. We know our Colorado hemp, and we’re proud to provide our customers with full-spectrum CBD products as well as provide information about hemp and cannabis.

Myth #1: Hemp & CBD Can Get You “High”

This misconception has become less prominent as more and more CBD products hit the market, but it’s still worth saying: CBD products do not get you “high” because they either contain no THC or very small amounts of THC. While many people use THC and CBD for similar reasons, such as to reduce pain and inflammation, CBD and THC work in their own unique ways. So if you normally experience relief from your symptoms with THC, substituting it with a CBD product may feel completely different.

Depending on your personal chemistry and your health goals, hemp extract products may be more powerful than THC. If you live in an area where medical or recreational cannabis is legal (like Colorado, where Herbal Infusions is based) you could try experimenting with synergistic effects of both THC & CBD. Or you could use a full-spectrum hemp extract products like the ones we sell here at Herbal Infusions, which includes a trace amount of THC to provide the entourage effect.

Myth #2: CBD is CBD & All CBD Products Are The Same

Making this overgeneralization is the same as saying coffee, tea, and soda are all the same because they all have caffeine. While only one cannabinoid is CBD, and it is the primary cannabinoid in CBD products, it is a natural, complex molecule — just like tea leaves or coffee beans.

You can think of pure CBD extract as a caffeine pill — you’re getting the straight, isolated molecule, but you’re missing out on all of the other terpenes and cannabinoids that would come with a full-spectrum hemp product. This is called the entourage effect and is more powerful than CBD alone. Here at Herbal Infusions, our CBD products are made with full-spectrum hemp oil, meaning that you will get the natural benefits of the entire hemp plant rather than only CBD. This is part of what makes our CBD products unique and different from others you’ll find on the market.

Also, just as you may prefer different types of tea or different roasts of coffee, it’s important to find the best CBD product for your personal taste and chemistry. Pay attention to the blend of terpenes and cannabinoids. Not all CBD products are the same, and if you’ve tried a CBD product from another company and had a bad experience, that doesn’t mean you may have a better one with an Herbal Infusion Colorado-hemp product!

Myth #3: There’s No Proof That CBD Has Medical Benefits

There’s a lot of hype around CBD products — and many CBD products that aren’t as high-quality as the ones we sell here at Colorado-based Herbal Infusions — so it can seem like CBD doesn’t have proven medical benefits. However, cannabidiol is an FDA-approved drug used to treat several childhood seizure disorders. There are dozens of clinical trials in progress, and CBD will most likely be approved to treat other medical conditions in the near future.

That being said, many of the people who are using hemp-extract products are using it for reasons that may not be supported by scientific evidence — yet. Only time will tell which CBD health uses will be embraced by the scientific and medical communities.

Myth #4: I Took CBD for A Week & Nothing Happened

If you’re considering using CBD products for the first time and have been asking for opinions of your friends or family, you probably have heard this myth. Fortunately, it doesn’t require a long explanation. May people try CBD products without having a condition they’re trying to treat, and so nothing happens. What if you rubbed aloe vera on your skin when you didn’t have a sunburn? Or took ibuprofen when you didn’t have a headache? Before you try CBD, consider what your health goals are. And remember, personal stories aren’t science and don’t reflect what you may (or may not) experience when using CBD. Also remember from Myth #2 that not all CBD products are the same, so even if your friend was looking to treat something with CBD, they may just have not found the CBD product that works for them.

Myth #5: CBD Has No Side Effects

Any company that tells you that there aren’t any side effects to their CBD products isn’t looking out for your best interests. Just like everything we consume, CBD does come with potential side effects, especially at very high doses. However, these side effects are not as dangerous as say, taking too much Tylenol, which could lead to internal bleeding and liver damage. CBD side effects include tiredness, reduced appetite, or digestive changes.

In one study by the New England Journal of Medicine, children with drug-resistant Dravet syndrome (a complex childhood epilepsy disorder) took very high doses of CBD every day for more than three months. They experienced side effects such as tiredness, reduced appetite, and digestive changes, but those side effects almost disappeared when the dose was halved to 500mg CBD per day (which is still a very large amount of CBD to take.

So, CBD does have side effects, but they are minimal, and you’re unlikely to experience any unless you’re taking very high doses, using low-quality CBD products, or other medication. Be sure to talk with your doctor before using CBD products.
